I like using a resolution higher then the 'Best for Retina' setting, since I mainly use the system for Final Cut Pro video editing etc.

What exactly is 'Best for Retina' - just a general comfortable text/icon size etc?

I find the next res up comfortable also - Im assuming I can use this permanently without any ill effects?

Best for retina is scaled 1440x900 (notice 2880x1800 is double that), others are 1680x1050 and the last one is 1920x1200. No side effects.
