rMBP Backup Solutions

I currently have an iMac backing up to a Time capsule. The main data backed up is a large (600Gb) photo library and a few documents.

I'm about to upgrade to a rMBP and will need to transfer the photo library to an external drive, probably connected to the time capsule.

My problem? What would be the best backup solution?

I mainly use Lightroom for my photos, so I propose to split the library as follows:-

On the MBP I will have all of this years photos.

On the external hard drive I will put all previous years photos

So any advice on how best to back this lot up?
