This is my first Macbook pro and I wanted to get some tips on how to take care of the battery. Any tips would be great. When I'm home I usually have it attached to the a display and running of the charger. Do you guys keep track of the cycles? whats the max cycles on the battery? Please excuse the noob question.

Run on battery whenever you need to and plug it in whenever you can. You can plug or unplug at any time, regardless of the charged percentage. Just make sure you don't run on AC power all the time, as your battery needs to be used regularly to stay healthy. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

Only in the case of defects. Not for normal wear, as it's a consumable item.

These batteries are rated at 1,000 cycles. A cycle is a dischrage/recharge totaling 100%. So:

100% -> 65% -> 100% = 0.35 cycle
100% -> 35% -> 100% = 0.65 cycle
= 1 cycle

So just charging it to full doesn't count as a cycle. It depends on how much you are charging. When you look at it that way, you realize how long 1,000 cycles really is.
