I've been having an issue for the last few months with the display in my 15" Retina MacBook Pro (mid-2012) that causes the display to not immediately turn on after a re-start. After some time and fiddling (usually opening and closing the lid a few times or waiting a while) the screen turns back on. Additionally, the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports don't work either.

This did come after the bag I have used to carry it in (with padding made for the MacBook) had a strap break and the bag (and computer) hit the floor. :(

There is nothing wrong with the computer -- the display is perfect (when it turns on), performance isn't affected (at least not that I have noticed, save for the ports), USB still works, power is normal. Once it is on and being used, it is as if nothing is wrong.

Went to the Genius Bar a few days ago to see what was the matter and they are going to do a more in-depth test, however they have given me a provisional quote of over US$1,000 to replace the display and the logic board. I have a hard time believing they'll replace the display as nothing is visibly wrong with it (at least on the outside).

So, before I drop it off tomorrow for the more in-depth test, I come to here for a second-opinion of sorts. Hopefully someone here can offer an opinion on what could be wrong just so I have some idea going into the tests tomorrow and have an idea of what the Genius may say is wrong. My thinking is it could be a lose connector from the fall.

Any ideas for input would be greatly appreciated!!!
