rMBP external displays

Hi,

I recently got my retina macbook pro with the LG display, not problems so far.

One problem I have noticed is connecting my external display (dell) to it. I cant go over the 1024x768 resolution and it just looks horrible!

I have tried the "detect displays" trick with no new resolutions appearing.

On my older 2009 macbook pro it looked good and the res went way higher than that.

What can I do?

It wont go over 1024x768 and it just looks horrible. Like I said, on my older 2009 macbook pro it looked great and had a higher res.

I connect my 22" HP w2207 up to my rMBP and it looks fine.

Make sure you go to system preferences and click one of the radio buttons. Are you using it in extended desktop mode or mirrored? If you are using mirrored, try using it with the notebook in clamshell (closed) mode.

Thats why I am wondering what could be wrong...???

I have it set up as a second monitor, no mirroring.

The display has the "scaled" radio button checked with only two resolutions appearing:

1024x768 and 800x600

As I stated before, with my other mbp I could go way higher on this same screen.

Please help!

I only have one last idea...

Try holding option (alt) while pressing the radio button. See if any additional resolutions appear.
