I've been using this monitor for a while now but every couple of days I get an issue where the right side of the monitor becomes unresponsive and is mostly noise. Unplugging the hdmi or display port (I've used both) and immediately plugging it back it resets it and it works fine. Any thoughts to what might be causing this?

I noticed this once on my Late 2013 rmbp 15" in OSX, and unplugging/replugging the wire fixed the issue. It has never occurred in windows. I have a feeling it is a driver issue.

I have never experienced over Thunderbolt with this monitor.

I suspect your monitor is broken. It isn't surprising that it is half the screen as LG allows you to put two inputs into each half. My guess is that the right side controller is experiencing issues.

I would contact LG.
