Hello,

I have MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2015, I am having iPhone charging issue with this specific computer.

I tried with 4 different iPhone cables and 2 different iPhone's, which one of them is bareley new(2 month old iPhone X)
The iPhone disconnects-connects rapidly in seconds which makes connection impossible.

The strange issue is it only happens with macOS. I try it with Bootcamp, nothing happens, it charges normally and connects successfully.

Same cable & iPhone combinations works on other computers well, also charges with brick chargers normally. The issue only happens with my rMBP but only in macOS.

The macOS-Bootcamp difference makes me believe the issue is not hardware based since it works in same configuration. I tried resetting SMC and NVRAM or other all possible things but still couldn't manage to do it.

This is something to do with SMC and trying to provide more than 500mA power ot the phone which only happens on macOS, not windows. I've experienced similar, though usually with iPad.. it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't..

on a side note, I was surprised to note that iPad seems to charge whether in macOS or bootcamp on 2018 model now.

An SMC reset might, or might not, getting it back working at least temporarily.. I had varied luck, it seemed to be working again for me on latest Mojave betas, but this could just be coincidence..

Tried resetting SMC multiple times in different times, still not working.
It sometimes work when plugged in and out and changing USB ports but it depends on the luck actually.

Now, just tried with fresh out of the box cable, it works in first try, but it is impossible to have 3 not working orginal cables which they work with Bootcamp, other computers and power bricks.

Edit:
Resetted SMC and NVRAM again.
mac OS High Sierra Boot: Still disconnects and connects rapidly.
mac OS High Sierra w/ Safe boot: Still disconnects and connects rapidly.
OS Partition Boot: Connects successfully just like BootCamp.

I get the same problem with most cables, I figured it was Apple assuming they were fake cables.
In my case, all of the cables are original it is impossible them to be fake, some of them sent by Apple as replacement, some of them is out of the box.
