i was given a serial number for a rMBP 15 2013,
when i looked it up online, it said "Macbook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Early 2013).

now before i go buy one, i was also given a serial number to another rMBP from another seller. except his doesnt say 15 inch, it just says "
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)"

here are the two. should i be worried for the one that doesnt say 15 inch?

Original 15": MacBook Pro, Retina, Mid 2012.
13" Original: MacBook Pro, Retina, 13" Late 2012

There was no 13" when the 15" retina was released, thus there was no 15/13 segregation.

No, because in Mid-2012 there was only one Retina model and that was the 15" model.
