Just a quick question... I normally keep my rMBP docked and on AC power 90% of the time. I have the Thunderbolt display hooked up to the rMBP pretty much all the time as well.

When I disconnect the AC power fromt the Thunderbolt display the rMBP immediately goes to sleep, and unless I leave the laptop open (non-clamshell) the Thunderbolt display won't work.

Even if I wake the laptop on battery with the Thunderbolt display connected and the lid open, then close the lid the laptop will immediately go back to sleep.

Thoughts?

Mainly just for power cycling the battery from time to time. No biggie to leave the lid cracked for a couple of hours once a week (or so). Thanks!

just get a program called 'nosleephelper'

i have same situation as you, and as mentioned kills battery life if you always have it on charge
