rmbpr safari pinch to zoom crashing after a while

i often use pinch to zoom in safari, but after awhile it will freeze and show a beach ball.

only way out is to force quit and restart safari.

however, it doesn't happen when the discrete gpu is enabled...so far

maybe the intel hd4000 isn't too good at juggling all those retina pixels?

anyone else noticed this?
