Hi all,

Got myself a 13" rMPB today (Haswell). Can any other owners tell me what their CPU temp is at idle?

When I'm browsing the web (this forum for example) the CPU sits at around 85-90 degrees Celsius. This seems WAY too hot considering the computer isn't doing a lot =/

I also noticed it only has one fan. I remember my old 15" rMBP having 2. I assume this is normal?

Any thoughts?

Yea, that is way too high. Download iStat Menu and report back your temps (also make sure you are reporting CPU Die temps (this is the actual CPU temp)

iStat doesn't seem to report my CPU temps. But I've got Temperature Gauge, and that currently reports the following:

CPU 0 Core: 85
CPU 0 Proximity: 73
CPU 1 Core: 81

I've also got SMC Fan Control, and that reports 85-87

istat menu does work, I use it.

it is possible that temperature gauge and smc fan control are not updated to support haswell? and are giving false readings? not sure... browsing temps should be 40-50c, and sometimes 60c if there is a lot of flash content.

Yeah good theory, that's a possibility.

iStat gives me the following:

Yeah, I have some thoughts, 85 degrees Celsius is 185F, so you had better have a fire extinguisher handy...;-)

Otherwise, if that is Fahrenheit, it's totally normal.

Definitely Celsius, we don't use Fahrenheit in my corner of the world ;)

And aiyaaabatt, iStat Menu reports the same temps as the other apps.

You just showed me a pic of istat pro, which is terrible. download ISTAT MENU. I'm tired of repeating myself...

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated, but I don't care for the arrogance. You've never misread anything? Simple mistake.

Arrogance? If I hadn't capped it and stated that I was tired of repeating myself, who is to say that you would have read it properly the third time I wrote it? What am I suppose to do? I could have just not responded.

Anyways, if your temps are still 80c with only web browsing, return it.

Pull up activity monitor, see if there is a process running.

Likely indexing, as mentioned.

That said, as long as you don't stabilize over 95C, you have nothing to worry about!
