So I'm in Tokyo, I paid ATT for a roaming plan while I am here, and I can't seem to make calls at all. If I just dial my number back home, I get some Japanese woman talking to me (automatic voice) and I have no idea what she is saying. If I try international prefix codes, I get nothing. I'm dead in the water while my colleague happily makes calls on her blackberry to home.

What is the magic sauce to using iPhone overseas like this?

Did you both connect to the same carrier?

Are you positive that ATT upgraded it?

My g/f came over from UT in March and had paid for T-Mobile to upgrade her to international roaming, and they hadn't actually done it. We had to chat online with a rep who then got it sorted.
