I just read today of the death of Robert Forster at the age of 78, a man who was an impressively understated yet accomplished actor.
While he enjoyed early success, his career stalled for the best part of two decades until Quentin Tarantino cast him in an unforgettable role as bail bondsman Max Cherry in the movie Jackie Brown (which is my own personal favourite movie from the Tarantino stable), which resurrected his career.
I have rarely seen the bitter-sweet yet warmth of middle-aged attraction - and romance (the pairing of Robert Forster, as Max Cherry, with Pam Grier, playing the eponymous Jackie Brown) depicted with such exquisite yet classy elegance on screen.
Forster had played many other roles, - and his career was revived by the success of Jackie Brown for which he received an Oscar nomination - but for this beautiful, bitter-sweet yet lovely role, he will be remembered.
