Inductees are:
Dolly Parton
Eminem
Duran Duran
Lionel Richie
Carly Simon
Eurythmics
Pat Benatar
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Judas Priest will receive the Musical Excellence Award.
I‘m not one to get hung up on the term “rock and roll” though at this point it probably would make sense to rename it the popular music hall of fame or something since more and more acts that probably wouldn’t be considered rock and roll will get in. But it is weird to me that a lot of actual rock music isn’t even considered. This year Rage Against The Machine and Beck were up for induction. Instead we get Lionel Richie and Carly Simon both of whom have been eligible for quite a while. And the rock hall seriously has some weird bias against so-called new wave and alternative rock (not to mention how long it took to get a band like Rush in). Bands like The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Pixies, B-52’s, Devo, New Order, Jane’s Addiction, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins (and that’s just to name a few) aren’t in but Bon Jovi and Def Leppard are and Dolly Parton will be. Don’t get me wrong, I think Dolly Parton is a living legend and a national treasure. But that doesn’t mean she should be in the RRHOF. And she even asked to have her name removed but the rock hall refused. I am glad to see Pat Benatar finally get in. If Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks are worthy certainly Pat Benatar is.
Who are your top three not in the RRHOF that should be? Mine are: Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Jane‘s Addiction with an honorable mention to Kate Bush.
