Hi all. I just received the Rode VideoMic NTG and I love it. Great build quality and works seamlessly with my Mac and iPad. The only downside to using it on my iPad is that I can't wear my headphones while recording. I use the Apple USB-C headphone jack adapter to the iPad and then the Rode SC 10 cable plugs into that and then into the 3.5mm headphone output on the mic. And every time I am done recording I have to unplug the Apple headphone jack adapter to listen to what I've recorded. It would be easier if I could record and monitor at the same time. I know Rode makes an adapter- the SC-6L and the original SC6. What I was thinking was getting a Lighting to USB-C adapter to convert the SC6-L to a USB-C and then I could use the SC6-L to my 2020 iPad. Does this make sense? If it does what adapter do I need? Or would I be better off with the SC6? Or do I need something else to get my headphones to work with the iPad and mic? If I need an audio interface what would you recommend?

Thanks for your help!

I’m about to buy one of these for dual use, either with my iPad or with my Sony a6300.

I think you’re missing one of the best features of the NTG — it’s a USB mic, and the 3.5mm jack will provide a monitoring output when in USB mode. Simply connect the USB-C on the Rode to the USB-C on the iPad, and plug your headphones into the mic’s output jack. No other adapters needed.

Hello, I tried with different usb c to usb c cable and doesn’t work on my 2020 iPad Pro . we need to do something ?

Apple-style headphone sockets carry a mono microphone signal as well as stereo headphone.

You need a splitter lead or cable, to go from a TRRS plug to a stereo headphone socket and a mono microphone socket.

Plug the NTG into the mic socket using a 3.5mm cable, and your headphones into the other socket, and you are good to go.

(If you are on iPhone, and don't have an audio socket, you need a lightning to headphone adapter too)
