Rogers IPhone Help

I bought a phone off craigs list, it worked fine all the software was on it, the guy that sold it to me said he was using a turbo sim. I took it to AT and T the cut me a new sim card for it and it would not work. They told me to go home and do a restore. I did the restore but then it got to a certain point and said invalid sim card please insert a valid sim card (this message popped up on itunes) and i have the usb -> Itunes on the ihpone. I can not get by this point. I took the phone to an apple store they said it is a rogers phone from canada and they cant do anything for me. Now if i get a sim card from rogers with pre-paid minutes on it will that work??? I hope someone can help!!
