Rogers has issued carrier update 4.1 on iTunes enabling MMS and tethering. I tried MMS and it works! When I tried tethering I got a message to contact Rogers to enable it. Rogers posted on their website that accounts with 1 GB + data plans will be able to enable internet tethering via Bluetooth or USB.

I don't think they will be charging extra for MMS, since I tried it, it worked, and I didn't get any messages regarding cost.

You are going to have to change your messaging plan though, since the current iPhone plans do not include MMS. There are new value packs that you would have to "upgrade" to to change that.

Scroll to the iPhone section and you'll see the new value packs there.

I don't think so. My plan includes free video messaging (for some reason it was a free promo, even though at the time it was useless for me). I guess I got lucky, Rogers gave it away thinking that the iPhone wouldn't be able to handle it, but picture messaging and video should be the same thing both are MMS. I remember the salesperson laughing about it. I get to laugh now.:)

YAY ROGERS!!! now i can waste all my texts sending useless pictures to people, do iphones without the 3.0 receive MMS messages as a flash text?

***EDIT***

so i got the carrier settings update but mms sill wont work for me i currently have no access to data (starts working on my next billing cycle) could that be why?

I don't even need to update ... I've been sending MMS since I got the 3.0 GM, and rogers told me I wont be paying more, it's included in my value pack.

Rogers also makes you sign a 3 year contract.
LOL. It'd be almost funny to hear those whiny fanboys cry about how it's Rogers' fault (and not their own) that they're not getting a new, discounted iPhone every year.

How is this update being issues? Via iTunes? Because I have yet to have anything pop up....

Or, is this a 3.0 specific carrier update?

I have 3.0, not sure if it will update 2.2 but you can try, and let us know.
Update through iTunes, click update button.

Yup you need some kind of plan. At the very least 1GB data.

To be clear, tethering would require a subscription to a data plan.

On the MMS front, at least with every other phone on Rogers' network, sending/receiving MMS never touches your data allotment at all - it's either pay-per-use or deducted from your texting/messaging pot, depending on whether or not you're subscribed to an eligible texting/messaging plan.
