Roku and videos

I have one ATV and a Roku at another location. The Roku app will allow streaming of videos that I have recorded in my photos app. Is there any way to get it to stream an MP4 video that is outside of the photos app? Is there any way to get an MP4 video INTO the photos app so that it will show up on the Roku as a choice?
