Hey all,

I usually am very well versed in the varying options of Apple custom order configurations, but seeing as there are NO benchmarks or definitive model numbers on these new MBP 200GB hard drives, I need people to report in. I ordered a 17" MBP with a 160GB, then changed it to a 200GB on a single report in another thread that it was a Toshiba drive that performed quite well, even at the 4200RPM speed. I do a LOT of video editing, but my scratch disks are external SATA and FW800 drives. I just want to consolidate and gauge a general speed and overall perception of your drive's performance, so report away!!!

-What model number (Fujitsu or Toshiba) do you have
-What is your perception of the performance.
-Any noticeable speed issues? Lags, hangups, etc.?

i got the mbp with 160GB hd. pretty nice. they used the hitachi.

honestly, the only thing about the 200gb 2.5" HD thats good is the space avail.

apparantly it doesnt use perpendicular method, so it's a bit slower on data transfer. The manufacturer wanted to be first to market with a HD this size. other manufacturers should have a perpendicular at a faster speed by 1Q 2007.

that said, 200GB is a NICE amount of space. enjoy!!!!!

What I heard is that Fujitsu makes a 200GB non-perp drive that IS slow, but is thicker than the standard 2.5" drive, but Toshiba has a thinner/standard sized 200GB that DOES use perp-technology that is significantly faster. I've heard ONE report of someone with a 200GB drive and it's a Toshiba. In the end, space is more important to me than speed...in this case...but I want to know if anyone is getting the Fujitsu drives ( I doubt it due to its size)

hmm, didnt know there was another manufacturer on this model. interesting.

if a good one comes out... i may upgrade when i need more space.

gluck. keep us posted. wonder what will come in your laptop. just got mine. very happy with my 15" MBP 2gbram, 160gb hd

I have one

Hi, I received my new MBP (2.33/2G/200GB/matte) this morning.
It was a bit cold since it came via AK :p

Anyway, as some of you already guess, system profiler says my 200gig disk is "TOSHIBA MK2035GSS," which is PMR.
I'm not sure if Apple also uses Fujutsu's 200gig disks.

Anyway, here is the result of XBench, with comparison to MBP-2.33/2G/120G

Not that bad as I was worried. Actually very good instead!
If Apple uses two different 200G disks, then I'm lucky :)

So far I have experienced no dropped frames in capturing / editing DV.

How fast is the 120GB relative to the 160GB PMR? Any comparisons between this 200GB drive and the 160GB PMR drive?
