Two things
1 cannot work out how to search this forum on my iPhone so if someone could send me a link to an idiots guide to searching that would be great.
2 the reason for posting. Since doing the latest software update I get a blank screen if I open my calendar (it is normally in list view) I have to go to month view and then back to list view and it appears. Boring so I want to go back to the old software version

Every time anything is wrong, they blame the new software, and want to go back. Just try restoring to the current software, and it should fix the problem (not from backup)

you can go back to previous OS's. its easy. just google how to downgrade iphone OS. i did it on my 3G from iOS 4.0 to 3.1.3. you need recboot or something like it to do it.

Thanks for that supportive non-patronising response.

I should know from my minor (30 years) fault finding experience that when one thing has been changed.
In this case a software update,
and what worked before no longer does so then it is obviously nothing to do with that change.
I am a silly!

If you have a 3G, you can go back without needing SHSH blobs saved.

If you have an iPhone 4 or a 3GS, it's impossible to go back unless you have the blobs saved either on your computer or in Cydia.

Not all iphones are jailbroken

Why does everyone assume that all iphones are jailbroken...
To the OP,
Have you tried restore? Usually that fixes things.
