Hello,

I jut bought a copy of Rome Total War, and I was wondering if there is some way to play it without the cd.

I mostly play it on my MacBook Pro, so it would be nice not to have to bring th CD with me, plus battery life, at least to me, seems to be lower with the CD rom accessing the disk.

Civilization V lets me play without the disk, so I had foolishly assumed RTW was the same.

I am not looking for illegal cracks or game downloads. I am hoping there is some legit way to bypass the CD being in my machine.

Thanks.

I purchased Rome on CD as well. I always needed a CD to play it. I purchased it again from the app store for my daughter. I uninstalled the CD version and installed the app store version. Of course no CD is required for App Store software.

I did the same thing for Call of Duty.... No CD required.

The App store is the only way that I know to get software that normally requires a CD to run without one. Some else might know of a way, that is the only way that I know of.

Rtw ftw!

I've been RTWing since the first intel iMacs came out - first via boot camp but recently via the Mac version (non Mac App Store). I'm not aware of any way to run without a CD except by (re)purchasing it in the Mac App Store.

Having said that, I've never looked for a CD requirement remover, so maybe there's one out there.

Thanks everyone.

I was not aware it was available via the App Store. I may go ahead and re-purchase it then, and use that for future games.

Do they allow two computers to use the same purchase?

I think that it works like the App Store. I DOES work for 2 computers though. I install apps from the App Store on my Mac and my daughters.

There must be some system to limit the installs but I don't know what is.

Mac App Store Limit

As far as I am aware there is no physical limit for App Store installs - if you look in the help section for installing on multiple computers there is nothing suggesting a limit. That having been said, the license you buy off of Apple when you buy the game only covers personal/family use, so installing on many many computers makes your license useless and you may as well be using an illegal torrent crack..
