So the fix we have heard about is to make 60-96Hz driver ICs and make them work up to 120Hz by adjusting the refresh rate by 25%...Hope it works...

Yes, they have a solution. Will they launch with that solution is the question. OLED has faster response times, smoother images, less flicker than LCD...120Hz OLED looks better than 120Hz LCD...

And make your battery drain faster.

Thanks for sharing your current guesswork Ross.

Ok and? Turn it off if concerned, or use it only at certain times. It's SO incredibly simple. There is no gun to anyone's head to use 120hz full time.

Changes the story as proven wrong. Guessing at best
Exactly, have a toggle defaulted to off, and if someone wants it they can turn it on. I'd even deal with a popup warning about battery if that's what it will take to have it.

They wouldn’t have worse battery life. If anything it’ll be the same battery life or maybe even an hour longer.

I suspect you’re correct. I don’t think the ‘battery drain would be any more significant. Apple is very specific when it comes to battery measurement and calibration , and they spend a plethora of time on the keynote discussing battery longevity, if this particular feature wasn’t ready for ‘mass market’, they certainly would not release it.

Hence why they're considering not turning 120hz on this year.

Leakers are back and forth on this. Currently seems that Apple has sorted out 120hz on the Max model, but not the regular pro

Ross Young may not know about 120hz progress, but he will for sure know what drivers are in the iPhone

Will be interesting to see what they do. I feel like if they have the 60-96hz driver just launch with 90hz. Pushing to 120hz can work, but with a 96hz driver it’s not going to be perfect even if they sort out 120hz

And make your battery drain faster.

True but Apple will likely have it in software so it comes down to 60hz when needed. Very un-Apple to make the user do the switching

Also, the A14 bionic is purportedly making big gains in power efficiency thanks to the 5nm process

Allegedly the batteries are smaller than the 11 series but battery life is the same or better

It's hard to believe a company like Apple lacks anything in terms of access to resources.
I know how can a company of there size lack anything.
The size is the issue.

One of the primary reasons Apple has been late to the game in key features - 3G, 4G, OLED, bezel thinning, fast charging, biometrics, and now 120 Hz - is their huge volumes and quality standards.

As Jeff Williams said:

"You cannot double plan the kind volumes that we do. We want leading edge technology, but we want it at established technology kind of volumes."

So it doesn't surprise me that 120 Hz is proving challenging.

I wasn’t realty driven to get a 120 Hz phone, as it would be nothing more than a spec bump meaningless feature.
It’s far from meaningless. When you finally get it on iPhone, it’ll be the best thing since sliced bread and you won’t know how you lived without it.
