I have a linksys router and I am having some problems with it...it seems that every time i have to restart or when i cold boot I have to powercycle my modem and my router to get it too work...any help?

Likely something to do with DHCP, and the way you have it configured. Not sure of anything exact for you to look for, but poke around in the settings and see if you can figure something out.

I set my computers at home to have a fixed IP address, and that seems to work pretty well.

You might try assigning a lan Static IP to the computer... You just do that in the network panel of system preferences.
