Hi
I've stalked here for a while and finally got round to actually asking for myself.
I am having problems with my network bouncing all my laptops off when they power down or go to sleep.
my set up is a s follows
We are using g5 dual core 2Ghz PPC as my media server and have a g4 laptop last PPC, macbook 2007, macbookpro 2006 2.16Ghz intel core duo,
macbook pro 2009 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 iphone 3gs and samsung CLP - 310 network printer a WDTV Live networked media player and a Virgin Networked 1TB tivo box
All connected to the internet via a D-link DIR-615 router on the Virgin media cabled 50mB broadband (on an - Ambit VMNG300 modem)
The G5 server, the Samsung printer, the WDTV Live box and the Virgin tiro Box are all hardwired to the router, the rest via wireless.
We are using a wep password and our mac addresses for security, with assigned ip addresses for each machine ( it seemed to work better that way) and up until recently we have been pretty stable.
We have started to have problems keeping the wireless laptops online, they don't want to log online when they are switched on and they get bounced out when they wake from sleep.
I end up having to reboot the router and then buggering about with the network connections on the laptops to get them online.
This is becoming tedious as I end up as tech support having to do all the messing about to make them work.
I have even reset the router to factory settings and set the whole thing up again - which took ages, as I'm **** with this stuff.
I suspect we need a new router, which isn't a problem but I need to get one that is fast, stable and plays well with a netgear GS724TS switch that we are buying for the wired network in the next 6 months.
Any advice would be greatly received as I'm not a natural at this stuff and it's taking way to much time to constantly need to do this.
