If I install the rooter in a shelf, that is closed in it's sides (it's opened only in the front), will it work fine? I'm projecting new forniture for my home office and I'm having trouble to find a place for it that doesn't cause me any loss of performance!

It will work just fine but you might see a slight decrease in range in the direction of the closed sides. Depending on how far away you plan on being from it normally this may or may not be a problem. I would say go for it as the effects will be very minimal.

It should, mine is behind my big-screen TV, in a completely different room than the computers, and I can pick it up anywhere on my property.

Yes as wireless signals go through walls without much hinderance, metallic objects cause the most problems, pipes in walls, radiators etc.
