Routers - need a router with good transmitting range

I've run Internet searches about wireless router range but didn't find anything very telling...

My dad lives in the same building as myself, and I'm trying to make it so he can pick up my wireless signal. My D Link DI-524 apparently doesn't quite make it to his side of the building - are there routers out there with a better range than the 524? Or should I just get an extender to place in between his apartment and mine? Recommendations?

just go with any router using N MIMO technology.
the more internal antennas the better.

i'm using a Netgear Rangemax N MIMO router with 3 internal antennas.
the new ones right now come with 8 i think!

just be sure to upgrade the firmware of the router as well.
