I lately purchased a Sappire RX Vega 64 Liquid Cooled. Very nice card and working great so far in the 5,1 with Sequoia. Also 3D-benchmarks or Geekbench Compute pass without any issues.

But lately i ran into some problems. First noticed with the cycling/training-app Rouvy (which displays track as some real video an the riders as rendered avatars). But it also happened wit some games like The Witcher III or Layers of Fear. The apps do not even start. For Rouvy, some error report as attached pops up.

Same app works fine when booted to Windows 11 in the same machine. So it is unlikely that the card is defective. Also the app runs fine in macOS with a Polaris-card under the same circumstances: Sequoia 15.1.1 with OCLP 2.1.2, Ventura Root Patches installed.

Did anybody experience similar with Vega-cards in the more recent operating systems or can "see" anything in the error report?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just to lift this up a little:

Really not anybody having a glue what the problem could be with AMD RX Vega and the later versions of macOS? 😩

To give some additional Info: Anything works fine when running Moterey instead of Sequoia or Sonoma. But OCLP 2.2.0 as well as Sequoia 15.2 were unable to change anything to the better.

But the same Apps, same version, also with the Vega running perfectly fine on Monterey.

Only certain GPUs are supported under Sonoma with older machines that don't have CPUs capable of AVX2.

Some of the drivers for the newer cards require AVX2. There are fairly recent posts here about that if you search for them, and those posts recommend to stick with the RX580. Newer cards will not work unless you have an AVX2 capable CPU.

I'm surprised Apple didn't do the same with RX580.

Yes, sure. So it is a commonly known fact that Navi is not supported in any higher OS than Monterey for the cMP 4,1/5,1. So none of the RX 6xxx generation cards will work...

...but there’s no talking about any of these in this thread. And cards based on the Vega GPU, as there are Vega 56/64 as well as Radeon VII, are known to work so far. A lot of games as well as 3D-benchmarks running flawlessly even in Sequoia seem to confirm this. This is why this thread exists. And there's no talking anywhere in the forum about else.

At least i was not able to find some. So if you came across any of those „recent posts“ telling different or discussing any AVX2-based limitations of the Vega-cards, it would be quite a nice move to point me to them.

This is simply not the case. So if you do not have anything helpful to say, why do you comment? I'm well familiar with the search function of the forum.
