I loved him as the SeaQuest captain, and in 2010. He will be missed

Enjoyed him in Jaws but most notably in 2010. SeaQuest was a fun show at the time, but pretty bad now looking back on it.

I was quite surprised when I read this on Fark yesterday. I guess this means there is now zero chance of a Seaquest reunion. I also didn't think he was that old.

One more famious actor closer to the days I sit in shame in the dark (with Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy die).

HELL YEAH ...! Although we'll all be just another Jafo and still terrified of the sea and oceans, I will miss him.

I always thought as a kid he'd live forever; I've never fully got to see 2010 or even 2001 - just too dragged out to follow. I'll give it a full chance next weekend.

Roy ... now you got the coolest and most powerful Helicopter in the heavens. Say hello to the big guy; and when he's in a joking mood just before jumping into the chopter to take the angels for a ride .... tell him to "Follow the Leada"

A very good actor--I can't think of anything I didn't like him in. Jaws, 2010, Blue Thunder, The Russia House, The French Connection, etc.

Just FYI, he wasn't in 2001: a space odyssey. In that film, Heywood Floyd was played by actor William Sylvester. Given the almost 30-year gap between the two movies, using Sylvester in 2010 wouldn't have been possible (not to mention, Scheider was a much better and more emotive actor).

But you should still watch 2001 if you haven't already.

While most will remember him for Jaws, I always thought that his absolute best performance was All That Jazz. Roy didn't just do a good job of portraying Bob Fosse, Roy WAS Bob Fosse!!
