My computer illiterate family member has requested my help to get her up and running after a broken iphone 13 pro max screen. The phone still takes inputs but the screen is blank white. Verified by being able to type in 4 digit passcode after FaceID doesn't work.

On top of this she has never backed up photos/videos of which she is trying to keep. On top of this she forgot her Apple ID pass code.

The Account Recovery feature will take two weeks to text instructions on how to unlock the account. Does Apple accounts ever get locked out completely, indefinitely and forever? The Genius's answers varied on this one. Apple would not be able to verify through credit card that the account is hers since she doesn't like an online presence and has never attached a credit card to the Apple ID.

They won't replace the screen without work order with her Apple ID so everything is screeched to a halt.

My question is there any way to physically screen mirror or Airplay what's on the phone to a computer monitor and/or a TV? This would be via Lightning to HDMI, DVI, or something similar. So we can see what's going on on the phone would solve everything to back up her data and get access to her Apple ID

Another option would be to try and get voiceover switched on. that describes what's on the screen for people who can't see it

Just go to a third party repair that is not as strict as the Apple Store and have the screen replaced there. The iPhone will still be turned off whether repaired by Apple Store or a third party so a screen replacement can proceed. In this case, the contents are more important.

You won't be able to wipe the device if it is signed in to iCloud but the password is forgotten, and the answer to the security questions are forgotten as well.

Many if not most third-party phone repair stores have temporary screens that they can attach to the iPhone in question, and then many also have space where you can sit while you recover your iPhone contents, either by backing up to iCloud or to a Mac that you bring.

Call first though, some repair centers aren't as nice as others and they won't let you do this.

The advice above is for people not locked out of their iPhones, if that's the case for the OP then that's a different issue altogether, layered on top of getting the data off/getting the phone repaired.

People smash their screens on iPhones all the time; it's not like the situation is hopeless, but yes Apple is not always helpful in these situations.

Yeah this definitely sucks. Not knowing her Apple ID is really going to be difficult to overcome especially if she wishes to have Apple fix the iPhone screen.

Buy a lighting to hdmi adapter and use it to plug into a tv/monitor, you can guesstimate where to tap on the display as you look at the tv/monitor

This is exactly what I was hoping to do but the Genius in store was unsuccessful in getting it to work. Don’t know if his hardware was faulty.

He did mention to get accessories to work there is a setting on iOS that needs to be enabled but by default is not. Now at home I forgot what this setting is called.

Have you tried using iPhone Mirroring on a Mac? That works w/o having the iPhone screen on, and you can use it to copy files onto the Mac.
