I don't know what's going on, but I have had this happen for a couple of times now.

First the fans would rev up and become really loud.

MBP would run very slowly and it would say battery is not detected.

To make it detect battery again (SMC/PRAM reset doesn't work), I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

As soon as the laptop boots up, I have to go to the Activity Monitor and kill the "rpcsvchost" process.

I searched on Google and found that a lot of people seems to have problem with rpcsvchost hogging the processors and what they have in common is that most of them are running 2011 MacBook Pro 15" or 2011 MacBook Pro 17".

Likewise, this is happening on my Late 2011 MacBook Pro 17".
