Rubber around the screen rMBP?

The rubber around my 15" rMBP 2012 is hardened and pieces of it break away. On my 2014 I presume it is only a question of time until the same will happen.
Can these rubber strips/seals be replaced? If so, where to buy? Or any other idea about reconditioning them?

You can order rubber surrounds but I'm not sure how you would be able to install it with the way the MacBook screens are assembled.
