running 3rd party display card on 1st gen macpro

I wanted to know if anyone used the following cards on their 1st gen macpro:
Nvidia: 8800GT, 8800GTS, 8800GTX
ATI: HD2900 series, and all HD 3 series

If anyone ever installed any of those card on your macpro and WORKS, I'd like to know the proper installation procedure, please also list out other accessories that are required to run the card.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.
