I love my new rMBP, 2.6 Ghz, 16 GBs of RAM, 512 SSD. But despite the 512 SSD... And although I could remove most media and put it on externals or MacPro desktop, but you don't really need media on your SSD for speed. This is where apps would benefit. When you have lots of apps and media... space is valuable. I am thinking about getting a MacMini with SSD and connecting to the rMBP through Thunderbolt or LAN to store those apps only at home where I'll use them at the desk with bigger monitors. What do you guys think? Ridiculous? Worth the trouble? Probably not with my 2009 MacPro as the server, but if I sold it and got a new MacMini instead as the server. Another option is thunderbolt external drives. Which are quite expensive, why not just get the benefits of the server for not much more? Of course I am not going to remotely access the apps... that's ridiculous. Just use them at home. Another thought is store them on the thunderbolt enabled drive and that why you would not need two licenses, and could run it off both computers depending on which one was more comfortable to use? Is this possible? Ideally I will sell my MacPro desktop and just dock my laptop with my desk peripherals when home, leaning more towards externals, but servers are very attractive especially when one owns an Apple TV and may one day soon own a small business.
