Hey guys,

I wanted to ask if it is okay to play intense games with the lid closed on my 2.7/16/768 rMBP while connected to my Thunderbolt Display. I know it's supported by Apple and shown on their website and what not but does the computer have less cooling ability. I stand the computer up in a book arc which doesn't allow me to use it with open lid. Please let me know your opinion.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry. Computers these days, especially current-gen Intel chips, are very good at managing heat production. Just make sure the vents on the sides and the back are not obstructed in any unnatural way and it should be fine.

Has anyone done this without issue on a rMBP or even previous gen MBP?

I guess I worry about heat build up on the screen...

You could close the lid only to where the screen turns off so theres some space for the heat to escape.
