I run both my June '09 Unibody Macbook Pros on top of their respective incase sleeves so I'm not always putting them down or sliding them around my oak desk. So far, they've run cool and given the both computers a small boost as far as being eye level. Fans haven't kicked in ever and I leave enough space at the vents so that the case doesn't fold over them. They shut off before they totally overheat anyways, right?

Anyone else do this...? good idea..? any foreseeable problems?

You should be fine. If you were to block the vents, your computer would get noticeably hot very quickly. As long as the fans aren't going on, you can be assured that you are not doing anything wrong.
