A couple weeks ago my hard drive crashed. My computer is a G5, the warranty hadn't expired but I didn't replace the drive b/c the warranty didn't cover data recovery and I figured I could just run off the maxtor 300GB harddrive i had installed as a secondary drive, and maybe get someone to recover the lost data when i can afford it. So i've been running off the 2nd drive for a while and the only difference i can tell, is the computer will get all loud sometimes from what sounds like the fan. this would only occasionally happen with the original drive, now it's much more frequent. does this mean the secondary drive is overheating? should i take out the damaged drive, could that be the problem?

also, i remember when i first got this mac, i had to go into some mode to make sure the computer was running its fastest, but now i can't find that. does anyone know where that is?

any help is greatly appreciated! thanks so much.
