I'm pretty sure I've seen this mentioned on here, but cannot find it for the life of me. Do people run their rMBPs while closed? I'm particularly curious about this in Windows under Bootcamp. I would like to hook up the HDMI to a monitor and close this thing on my desk, but I'm not sure if that's a) possible, and b) taxing on the cooling system...

Yes, they do :) It's called 'clamshell mode' and it's perfectly fine on the cooling system, as MacBooks are designed to be able to be used in clamshell mode. However if you are encountering overheating problems while it's closed, try using a book or some other hard object to raise it off the desk a bit, and therefore improve airflow.

Thanks! Seems like the cooling works just fine with the lid closed.

It does. I'll probably take flack for this considering I own a retina machine, but I pretty much carry mine between work and home hooking to a thunderbolt monitor at each end, and never an issue.

Yeah, I know, a waste of a retina screen :)
