My cpu seems to idle at 70C with 2 monitors. Is this normal? My 2008 MBP idled at 55C with 2 monitors... However, I haven't tried SL on the 2011 MBP, my old MBP ran SL, does Lion run hotter?

When I unplug the monitor, the temperature is more respectable 40-50C.

Does java just in general suck on macs because playing mine craft jumps the cpu to 85C instantly nearly 90C and the fans kick in to 6.2kRPM.

Mine idles at 50 degrees even when the room is hot. No external monitors, both 10.6.8 and Lion had the same temps.

As long as it's below 95, it's not going to damage your computer. :)

I've got a dual monitor setup so it uses the dedicated gpu rather than the Intel one. But 70C seems a bit hot for idling.

Before I redid my thermal paste mine idled at 58 - 62C with two monitors (Dedicated GPU). Now it's closer to 43C.
Stopped my fans from running whenever I opened anything ;)
anyway have you opened Activity Monitor to double check nothing is running that you don't know about?

Sorted, mac idles at 58C now, it must have been the indexing 24 hours in action! Thanks

^I think you can; saw it in a program or guide or something... somewhere. Maybe Onyx?

But mine idles around 60 or so; room is in the high 70s to 80.

However when playing a game the CPUs get to ~95 C; rest of the machine stays around 50 C or lower though.

2011 13 inch Pro.
