i know this feature has been out for a while now but it is new to me. I’d like to install Windows 10 on my new MBP using this feature. From googling it the process seems simple and straight forward. Anything I need to watch out for? Does the overall performance get diminished by installing two OS on the same machine?

The only things to know is that some components of a MBP are more exotic and you only get drivers for them from Apple — and these drivers are sometimes a bit buggy (e.g. I had issues with certain bluetooth devices earlier, but a Windows update fixed it). Also, if you are running a 15" machine, be advised that the dGPU is always active and set to be the primary GPU. Battery life under Windows is really bad, no idea why, probably lack of power management drivers. Also, some Windows features like disk encryption won't work.

Installation itself is super straightforward. You don't even need to create a bootable install disk. Bootcamp assistant will create a temporary setup partition for you (super cool!) and do all the complicated stuff.

I ran many MBA and rMB exclusively under Bootcamp with no issues other that BT driver was released quite late on the rMB

Bootcamp/W10 is even easier to reverse anytime than install :)

You really need to allow for at least 60GB for W10 partition as a min although less is possible so account for this when considering your SSD size

Battery run time is normally around an hour less than under MacOs

Don't forget to install ICloud for Windows so your iCloud files, bookmarks, contacts via Outlook and Photos are synch'd on both sides

thanks for the replies. if i get the Win 10 from Best Buy, all it comes is a card with serial number, how do i get the iso file from that? i just need the Windows to run my car tuning software which requires Win OS.

Yep, did this last night. You will go to MS and download the media creator and download the Win10 ISO file. Just follow the BootCamp assistant and you will be fine. Never did this before last night and all went perfect.

Something to think about: what about using VirtualBox?

I have an aux audio controller box on my car stereo that gets software updates flashed to it via Windows only. Windows in a VM has always worked for me. Upside to this is VirtualBox is free, and can offload the Windows VM to external drive when not in use vs. eating up the Mac's disk space with something used once in a blue moon. I'm running a very basic Windows 10 VM (no user data, Firefox installed) and that is eating up about 21GB.

Yeah, in a VM, won't be as peppy as running native, but then again, might not need the full HP of "bare metal".

I downloaded the MS ISO Media Creator which downloaded WIN and just used the product key that came with it. I got my Win10 from Amazon on a USB just drive, but never physically used the jump drive, just the product key is all it needs. The product key designates which version of Win10 installs.
