I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 vm but also have Sophos Antivirus for Mac installed. Was wondering if that might be overkill ? Does anyone know if Sophos scans the virtual machine and if so wouldn't that be more than enough for the vm? So far I have encountered no performance issues on both environments due to the antivirus software but since it's fairly new my Windows vm I am still tweaking the settings to my liking. Also i have no integration besides cut-and-paste enabled on both environments.

Sophos can't see inside your Windows virtual machine, so it can't do anything with it. You have to run antivirus inside the VM.
