Running XP on Bootcamp - sleep and resume problem

I've got XP running on Bootcamp. Sometimes, when I shut the lid, the light goes out on the Apple on the lid, and then you hear a click and the front light fades in and out. When you open the lid, the machine starts back up -- perfect.

Other times, when I shut the lid, nothing shuts off, but then when I open the lid, the screen won't restart and I'm basically sunk. Need to power off the machine and then restart. Very bad.

Anyone have any thoughts about why this is happening or what to do?
