Anyone familiar with a company called Rush Technical Support? We just discovered that my 87-year old father (despite all the warnings we've given him) was sold an expensive remote monitoring package by them a few years ago and has kept renewing it even though I normally help him with all his problems.

From what I can tell, they are a legitimate company although I question they appear to specialize in certain industry markets so why they're selling their services to an 87-year old consumer user is a mystery (this all just came to light today). As near as I can tell, they must have talked him through installing something to give them remote access although what it is, I have yet to figure out. Anyone know?

Some backstory - a year or so ago, he was taken by some scammer (still trying to figure out how badly - we think it was data ransom that we stopped before he paid and I ended up reinstalling MacOS from scratch (virgin install, then restored what files I could - lots of data lost in that mess). After that was all done, I setup Chrome Remote Desktop so I could access his computer. Sometime in the last few months, this Rush Tech Support accessed his computer for his "quarterly checkup", must have seen Chrome Remote Desktop, and deleted it. So I had to talk him through reinstalling it today. I looked around but am not seeing anything obvious.

So my main question is, if anyone is familiar with this company, is what they are using for remote access? I really would like to get it turned off and deleted ASAP. A web search has turned up nothing.

Please don't respond about what to do about my father or any other aspects of this. My brother is an attorney and this company (and another for a completely unrelated reason) will be hearing from him regarding any legal issues involved. We are also dealing with my father's apparent inability to financially take care of himself.

I am not familiar with them. Did some research. Found their website: https://www.rushtechsupport.com/ and you can contact them at 844-881-7874 (RUSH). support@rushtechsupport.com. You could ask them personally.

But if your concern is about the security of your dad's computer, I suggest looking for an antivirus company. Then, contact their support and tell them that the computer was hacked or something. Just make sure that there is no additional fee for the remote access.

I found their website much earlier and the phone call will happen but it will be a lawyer-led call first, then technical.

Anyway, with more digging, it appears they are using LogMeInRescue and the connection is initiated from my father’s end so it does not appear they have a constant connection. I’ve deleted LogMeInRescue (didn’t see at first as my father left it in Downloads rather than moving it to Applications). But some other stuff was also installed including some cloud backup service (not needed), a VPN client (not needed), and who knows what else. I’ve deleted or turned off everything I could find. Probably need to another clean install but as he’s 2,000 miles away, that will not be happening anytime soon.
