First off, I'm very OCD about new products, so this iPod touch 4 has been in no harms way... But when I took off my case to put on a new screen, I noticed a brown spot on my iPod. thinking it might just be remnants of whatever was in my pocket, i tried swiping it away. Noticed it felt rough.

Now this strikes me as odd, since I wasn't so careful with my last iPod touch (brought it in the shower room, you could SEE the humidity in between the iPod and the case) and this NEVER happened to it. Is the new iPod touch made of less durable steel? If so, will it continue to eat away at the steel...? I don't want a rusted iPod :(

stainless steel back = no rust. Whatever it is should clean off. Maybe post a picture?

Stainless steel is more rust resistant than many metals, but its far from being rust proof. It is possible to scratch a stainless steel finish and rust can set in. Salt from the beach also eats stainless steel for breakfast.

Rust on iPod Touch 4

I have the same problem. Here is a photo of rust on my iPod Touch 4, only three months old.

Why dull looking?

Couldn't help noticing that the back of the device looks dull as if it's been given a brushed chrome treatment where as the edges are still shiny looking.

My iPod touch is shiny all over the back of the device.

Just curious, maybe it has to do with reflection and taking a picture of it?

Anyway, sorry about the rust. Let us know if it developes anymore over time.
