Is s/mime broken for any of you in the native mail app? Before 26 when you received a signed email for the first time the name would be red. You’d click on the email/name and import the certificate/trust it. Then you could reply and encrypt email back to the sender. In ios26 they appear to have removed the ability to trust a certificate received in email. Has anyone figured out a way?

Normally if the sender has a Certificate from a trusted Certificate Source, it should not be red. Importing a certificate which not could be verified from a certification authority is not how it should work in general and miss the purpose of using Smime signed E-Mails imo

I have noticed the exact same problem on any of our iOS 26 devices. I can install the main certificate on the phone like always, but trying to install the sender's there isn't a way like there used to be. I am hoping they update their instructions or fix the bug as this makes it impossible to send encrypted emails. I did get it working just fine using Outlook for iOS.

Just an update on this. I am not sure if anyone else has found a solution yet or not, I have not, but what I did notice is on my iPad which is running iPad OS 26, the certificate still works as it did previously. You have to hit View Contact Card, but then it shows the certificate and you can install it or remove it. Still does not work on the iPhone though.

Oh, you are right. That does pop up on iPad...... just not on iPhone. Odd.

More..... I just figured out if you just switch around some of the contact card settings (the poster, picture, etc for a contact) it suddenly does pop up the certificate on iPhone. I am finding that I can trust some certs however some don't do anything when I hit the trust button.

Crazy! If I just go in and edit the contact by even putting a space in the notes field it allows me to install the certificate and I can now send encrypted emails to that person. GREAT FIND!! I will add that to the feedback and other places. Thank you!!!
