S-video to Thunderbolt Or Movies on iMac

I have a 27" iMac with Thunderbolt port, and this work great as both an independent desktop and a larger monitor for my MacBook Pro.

Now I need to use the iMac to display streaming from my Roku player, which only has an s-video out (and optical audio to my Home Theater system).

I'd like to hook up the Roku to display video on the large iMac, but see no such adapter cables for s-video to Thunderbolt. Would I be better getting a new Roku or Apple TV (HDMI out), or abandon Roku and view programs directly on iMac? My Home Theatre system can also accept an aux cable for sound out from the iMac. Thanks.

There is no such thing as svideo to thunderbolt as they are two completely different standards and will never go from one to the other. Your best bet price wise is just to get a cheap TV.

If you have a TB iMac you can't use it for anything else other than a TB source. That's sad and we've all been there. Only the late 2009 and 2010 models could do it because they had miniDP port instead of TB.

Try "Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt" (http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/models/) - it has a S-Video Input and HDMI Output.

Thanks, everyone, for the explanations and possible (though expensive) solutions. I feel kind of stuck. The iMac can view enough content without the s-video Roku. But I also have a Wii that is s-video only. I have no TV. We've had no cable service at our house for years. I hate nothing more than having 300 channels with nothing good on.

I may keep on using my projector, though finding a suitable wall for projection in our new smaller home is tough.

Just pick up an El Gato EyeTV Hybrid for ~$150. That will give you S-Video in via USB. I use mine for my classic video game systems all the time (S-Video and Composite video).
