So I have been spending some time with my S3 LTE without having my phone nearby (I do keep my phone on, but I don't keep it with me). I am really disappointed in my S3's capabilities. Generally, it will get message and email notifications (but not always). But when trying to communicate with the outside world, it is a BIG fail. I can't get any sports scores, because all of the "scores" apps I have require that my phone be nearby. News apps, such as USA Today all tell me they could not connect to the Internet.

I can make and receive calls, but I thought my S3 would be able to connect to the world by itself, but I guess I was mistaken. Right?

Issue you are facing is the apps need updated by the developers. Example, Instagram worked over LTE, until they disabled it, in an update. It will just take time for the apps to support LTE.
