I wasn't too interested in getting a Watch until recently when I've gotten more serious about health and fitness. I'm mostly interested in the activity + sleep trackers, as well as the ability to quickly glance at notifications/lists/whatever while I'm out and about without having to dig my phone out of my bag. But I'm on a pretty strict, limited budget so I decided to wait it out for the event today. If the SE replaced the S3 at the $199 price point, I'd have gone for it. As we all know, it didn't. So I went out today and picked up a 42mm S3. It didn't make sense to pay more for something without knowing if I'd even use it or like it, especially since I can't really justify the watch at ~$300. There doesn't seem to be a huge gap in functionality (at least as far as my own use) but I'm still having a little bit of FOMO. Did I still make a solid purchase?

Just came across this article to help you decide :)

This is perfect, actually. I'm sold! Thanks! I guess my thinking was that if Apple is still selling and manufacturing the 3, it will be supported longer. But I guess the price difference really isn't that much. I'll probably wear this one for a day or two just to make sure I like it and will use it. But if I decide to keep it, I'll definitely make the swap.

So given Apples track record, the Series 3 is probably the last version for watchOS 7, and even with slashed discounts, the choice is obvious the for the entry-level SE watch at ~$279. Especially if there’s lucrative trade-ins, you can obtain it even cheaper.
