I didn't really want to buy a new S5 but Nike had priced them incorrectly the other day and managed to purchased a watch S5 44mm for £350

Used it this weekend and not impressed with AOD, battery life not bad but not like S4 and the screen appears dimmer

Also I cant really see the AOD display and when I look at the watch for the time the display brightness up anyway

Is the screen the same as S4 or is it very slightly dimmer

You can change the screen brightness in the watch app or on the watch in the settings > display and brightness.

Maybe depends on the face you've chosen but I find it perfectly readable on the ones I've got before and after it brightens up.

Battery goes 2 days with no problem.

Yeah I have increased the brightness on both S4 and S5

So used my S4 13 hours and lost 30% battery with 70% left

I think I'll keep the S4 and return S5

S5 is great if you come from S1 or S2. I would argue than even from S3 the upgrade is not worth it.

On paper the S5 screen adopts the same tech as the S4. In practice, Apple tweaked a few components in the S5 to make AOD not as power-greedy. AOD is very dim, I hope that the next-gen will use microLED to fix that.

When the S4 came out, I picked one up to replace my S3. I returned the S4 a couple days later because I really didn’t see the point of the upgrade. So, when the S5s came out, I thought I’d be in the same boat, but for some reason, I see the S5 as an upgrade. Maybe it’s the AOD or maybe I was just “ready” for the upgrade - who knows. I do know that when I put on the S3, I definitely notice a difference, probably mostly because of the increased size of the S5 and how it uses more of the screen. Of course, the same could be said for the S4, but, again, I didn’t notice it as much last year. It’s probably just me, I’m weird that way....

Any specific settings changes you made?

No my S4 has always been this good and hence why I'm not impressed with the S5 battery when comparing

Totally and fully agree with this mate
