and the screen is cracked on your current phone and you live with it but the batt no longer holds a charge

how does the batt replacement service then work? i know they give you a new iphone as opposed to replacing the batt
 
They will only give you a new (refurb) iphone if the only problem is that your battery won't hold a charge. I'm not sure if they'll replace the battery in a phone with a cracked screen.
 
In that case they will probably just replace the battery for a fee and return your iPhone in the current condition.

Why not go to the nearest Apple Store and ask them?
