I'm close to getting a 2Terabyte external drive for my Mac Studio. I'm leaning towards the Sabrent - any thoughts/opinions on this? I've had good luck with Sabrent in the past. I was thinking of the OWC Envoy Ultra, but I'm not jazzed up about the hard wired TB5 cable and them using their own SSD modules. Not sure what their track record is.

OWC 2TB Envoy Ultra for $349
SABRENT Rocket XTRM 5 2TB for $332

Another option is to roll my own, so to speak - buy an enclosure and a SSD. I'm looking at about 350 for both.
Samsung 990 for $150 for the SSD
ACASIS 80Gbps for $209 or Trebleet 80Gbps enclosure for $200

Samsung 990 is highly regarded, but I've heard of issues with the Acasis and trebleet, i.e., trebleet's fans can be very loud.

If you were going to spend 350, which way would you go and why?

Do all of them have issues with disconnects when waking up the Mac?

Edit: the purpose is to supplement the 512GB internal storage, maybe moving the home folder, or some of the applications and using it for data, i.e., lightroom images
